In June, CanadaHelps hosted the 6th annual Great Canadian Giving Challenge: An opportunity for Canadian charities to engage their supporters while driving donations, and a month-long national contest with a chance for charities to win a $20,000 donation. Throughout the month, every $1 donation that charities received online—via GivingChallenge.ca, CanadaHelps.org, and CanadaHelps’ fundraising tools—automatically entered them for a chance to win.
This year, we doubled the grand prize to $20,000 to celebrate our 20th anniversary of helping charities succeed in Canada. The prize increase became an additional incentive for Canadians to donate and help their favourite charities win.
The 2020 giving challenge helped raise a total of $27,576,578 for charities—that is 92% more than last year! From coast to coast to coast, hundreds of thousands of Canadians showed their support and generosity by amplifying and giving to the causes close to their hearts.
Beyond the contest, it was inspiring to witness the drive of all the charities that virtually reached out and connected with their supporters via email, social media, videos, and other ways.
The $20,000 grand prize winner was randomly drawn on July 1st, Canada Day! Congratulations to the winner of the 2020 Great Canadian Giving Challenge: Sistering – A Woman’s Place, from Toronto! As a women’s organization, their focus is on changing social conditions for women and trans people in all their diversity, through programs guided by the principles of anti-racism and anti-oppression. With $20,000, Sistering will be able to continue providing access and support to their clients to help mitigate the effects of COVID-19.
We thank the charities that participated and look forward to having you join again next year!
